The Certificate in Breast Imaging - Diagnostic is intended to provide a mechanism for radiological technologists to demonstrate knowledge and competence in the field of diagnostic breast imaging, to promote standards of excellence within this clinical area, and to identify those who have met a nationally recognized standard.

Criteria

CBID Criteria

The CAMRT’s Certificate in Breast Imaging- Diagnostic program is available to:

  • Medical Radiation Technologists who have been certified by the CAMRT in the practice of Radiological Technology with 1750 hours as a practicing mammography technologist over the three (3) years preceding registration into the CBID program
  • Internationally educated medical radiation technologists (IEMRTs) in the specialty of radiological technology who are graduates of medical radiation technology programs substantially like Canadian accredited programs with 1750 hours as a practicing mammography technologist over the three (3) years preceding registration into the CBID program

The CBID program has both didactic and clinical components.

**Didactic Learning **

  1. Successful completion of CAMRT’s Mammography* or Breast Imaging 1 course, with a minimum exam mark of 75%.
  2. Successful completion of CAMRT’s Mammography* or Breast Imaging 2 course, with a minimum exam mark of 75%.
  3. Successful completion of CAMRT’s Imaging Breast Pathology course, with a minimum exam mark of 75%.
  4. Completion of CAMRT’s **[Breast Cancer: An Overview Quick Self Study] (https://camrt.force.com/CPBase__store?site=a0a1a00000AMdCoAAL)**** with a minimum mark of 75% on the post quiz.
  5. Successful completion of a competency-based exam based on current practice.

*These courses are no longer available.

**This Quick Self Study was removed from the CBID didactic learning requirement in 2019.

Clinical Experience

1. 1750 hours as a practicing mammography technologist over the three (3) years preceding registration into the CBID program 2. Completion of a Summary of Clinical Competence under the direct supervision of an eligible Clinical Advisor. The SCC is a list of procedures and associated competencies that must be assessed by the clinical advisor.

After review of all components – didactic and clinical - by the CBI Committee, the Certificate in Breast Imaging (Diagnostic) is granted to the technologist. The designation granted is CBID.
