The Agricultural Essentials: Equipment Maintenance microcredential is designed to prepare learners to work in the agricultural sector as a farm worker. Modules of training include Agricultural Tools & Equipment, Routine Equipment Maintenance, and Work Safely. Learners are instructed on how to reduce downtime and repair costs by keeping tools and equipment in safe and working condition through their proper care and protection. The knowledge and terminology covered in the modules includes, but is not limited to, tool identification, equipment uses, equipment components, the importance of upkeep, and health and safety procedures. Both instructor-led and practical learning opportunities provide learners to practice their ability to use agricultural tools and equipment safely and to maintain agricultural equipment in good operating order. Additionally, learners are instructed on how to practice equipment maintenance efficiently while simultaneously acting in accordance with health and safety practices. Program Outcomes

Following the successful completion of this program, the student will be able to:

  • use agricultural tools and equipment in a safe, efficient, and responsible manner
  • maintain agricultural equipment in good operating order while following safe work practices and procedures
  • act in accordance with personal and group health and safety practices and procedures

Forms of Assessment and Evidence

Online test(s) for comprehension of general knowledge regarding Agricultural Tools and Equipment, Routine Equipment Maintenance, and Work Safely

Practical shop project demonstrating the ability to:

  • safely and properly use agricultural tools and equipment
  • follow proper lifting and rigging procedures
  • complete accurate equipment maintenance logs
  • perform routine maintenance on agricultural equipment
  • modify equipment for different situations

Assessment Criteria

This badge is earned after demonstrating the ability to use agricultural tools and equipment safely, to maintain agricultural equipment safely, and to act in accordance with health and safety practices through authentic assessment of the Equipment Maintenance modules by:

  • receiving a passing grade (60% or above) on comprehension tests on each of the 3 module topics
  • completing the practical shop project by using agricultural tools to maintain equipment effectively and safely
